VICE MAYOR PALANCA LEADS CULMINATION OF TUPAD BALAY PROJECT, TURNS OVER WORKBOOKS AND NEW LIBRARY IN VILLA VICTORIAS

Vice Mayor Derek Palanca joined community members, educators, and local partners in celebrating the culmination and turnover ceremony of the Tupad Balay Project highlighting the power of collective action and community-driven education held at the Villa Victorias Covered Court, June 28.
Spearheaded by Teach for the Philippines (TFP) Teacher Fellows, Tupad Balay is a community-owned initiative built on the stories, dreams, and aspirations of Villa Victorias residents.
Developed after a comprehensive local assessment, the project ran for five months and aimed to champion children's learning through parent engagement, literacy support, and resource development.
The culminating activity featured the official turnover of 52 reading workbooks, co-authored by TFP Fellows and the dedicated teachers of Villa Victorias Elementary School.
These workbooks, produced in collaboration with DepEd teachers, will be reviewed by the Department of Education Schools Division Office (SDO) Victorias for quality assurance and use in local literacy programs.
In a key highlight of the ceremony, the project also established a new school library for Villa Victorias Elementary School.
Now housing over 300 scholarly books and storybooks, the facility is expected to serve as a vital learning hub for young readers in the community.
Additionally, the project engaged 14 parents through Gabay Champ 2025, a collaborative workshop on basic literacy and socio-emotional learning.
Participating parents developed instructional materials and conducted teaching demonstrations, reinforcing the critical role of families in child education.
Vice Mayor Derek, recognized as one of TFP’s local education champions, expressed gratitude and pride in supporting the initiative. “We are truly fortunate to be an active partner of Teach for the Philippines,” he said.
“As our Fellows near the end of their journey with us, they leave behind a legacy in the lives they’ve touched.”
He also acknowledged the contributions of TFP Fellows Teacher Miro, Teacher Janna, and Teacher Kiko, the Villa Victorias school and parent community, DepEd SDO Victorias, private donors, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Councilor Trisha Mae Majan, who donated an air-conditioner to the school.
With hope for continued innovation in education, the City looks forward to welcoming the next wave of TFP Fellows and sustaining the impact of projects like Tupad Balay. *
