Victorias City marked a significant development milestone with the groundbreaking of the Tison Bridge in Barangay XI, one of the first major infrastructure projects implemented by Third District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez in the city, on July 1.

Congressman Javi, together with Senator Mark Villar and Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, led the ceremony for the construction of a 30-linear-meter bridge and its adjoining concrete road, designed with Portland Cement Concrete Pavement.

The road includes a 3.5-meter lane width and a 6.10-meter carriageway, with added slope protection to prevent soil erosion and ensure structural resilience during extreme weather events.

Mayor JunB underscored the importance of the project in delivering safer and faster travel for residents, and in building more connected communities across the city.

Senator Villar expressed his support for ongoing infrastructure development in Negros Occidental, noting that the Tison Bridge is just the beginning of broader support for the district and the province.

Congressman Javi emphasized the urgency of the project, citing repeated disruptions at the current bridge due to flooding, which hindered access for students and residents during emergencies.

Once completed, the bridge will significantly reduce travel time, improve access to essential services, and boost local productivity, while enhancing public safety and disaster resilience.

Also present were Vice Mayor Derek Palanca, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, 79th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Eric Alfonso, and Victorias City Police Chief Plt. Col. Terence Paul Sta. Ana.

Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineer Engr. Dene Baldonado Jr., Assistant District Engineer Engr. Arnel Torrefanca, Punong Barangay Mary Pugna and the Barangay XI Council, Chief of Staff to the Congressman Atty. Lindolf De Castro, and City Administrator Atty. Meddie Arbolado Jr. also joined the event.

Representatives from AC Rivero Development Corporation, the project contractor, Anton Rivero and Roberto Rivero, were likewise in attendance, alongside city department heads, employees, Senator Villar’s staff, and residents of Barangay XI.

This project reflects the shared vision of local and national leaders to address long-standing infrastructure gaps and support inclusive growth across Victorias City. *
