BRIEF HISTORY OF BARANGAY 1
Barangay I was created under Presidential Decree No. 86 issued by Former President Ferdinand Marcon on December 31, 1972.
It is located within the city proper 200 meters away from the city hall. It is classified as an urban Barangay composed of 6 zones, namely Zone 1 – Canuhot, Zone 2 – Ihawan I, Zone 3 – Ihawan II, Zone 4 – Little Tondo/Miraflores Street, Zone 5 – Embalcadero and Yap Quiña Subdivision and Zone 6 – Bangga Daan, Bat-us Brillantes and Pangarap Village.
The Barangay is bounded in the north by Barangay II, III and VI, in the south and east by Barangay XIII and IX, in the west by Barangay IX.
It has a total land area of 38.68 hectares of which 60% of the area of Residential.
Generally, the resident speaks Ilonggo and dominant religion is Roman Catholic.
Formerly the old Barangay site was the old slaughterhouse donated by the city to the barangay. Within the site, rise the old Barangay Hall and Barangay Health Center. The Barangay Health Center is manned by a midwife of the city and assisted by 1 BNS (Barangay Nutrition Scholar) and 15 BHW (Barangay Health Worker). Now, the Barangay Hall is located at Pangarap Village, beside the Barangay I Sports and Covered Court and in front lies the Barangay Day Care Center manned by a Day Care Worker of the City, and formerly the old Barangay Hall is now the Barangay Health Center.
The Barangay celebrates its Annual Fiesta event every 26th of May in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, the patron saint of Barangay I. Sports and Cultural activities were held before the fiesta highlights.
There are two rivers in the Barangay namely Magnanod Bridge, and the other one in Malihao river which separates boundaries of our barangay and Barangay 9.
