BARANGAY XIII HISTORY, VICTORIAS CITY

Barangay XIII is an agricultural and coastal area composed of four (5) sitios, three (3) residential subdivisions and fourteen (8) scattered haciendas. Three (3) main rivers are traversing the barangay, namely the Malogo, Magnanud and Malihao River.

The barangay has a land area of 1,022.41 hectares and majority of the land is agricultural. It has also a coastline of 2.2 kilometers and approximately 100 hectares of mangrove region.

It has a total population of seven thousand three hundred thirty-five (7,535) individuals with a household population of 1,673 based on Barangay Census conducted by the Barangay Health Workers at the first quarter of 2017.

About thirty percent (30%) of the household are regularly employed while the remaining seventy percent (70%) are dependent on sugar farming, shell gleaning, and vegetable production and/or engage in piggery. Others are working in Aquaculture Farms (Toreno Fishpond and AQUA CARDS – Victorias, Inc.) and Sand & Gravel Quarrying Operations on a piece work rate / pakyaw basis.

Three residential subdivions are located within the barangay – the Toreno Heights Subdivision Phase I, the Gloriville Subdivision where the Barangay Government Center is located and Kadalag-an Village, a socialized housing project of the City Government. The 8,000 seating capacity Sports and Cultural Coliseum is also located within the barangay.

Commercial/private establishments and vast sugar cane farms are present in the barangay which include Lopue’s Department Store, Junk Shops, Quarries, Aquaculture and Swine Farms.

Barangay XIII is just one (1) kilometer away form the city and can be reached through motorized tricycles plying the area daily. Some of the roads going to the city proper and passing the barangay are concreted.

The Barangay Council and offices are properly guided by the barangay’s vision, goals and objectives, especially in the prioritization and implementation of projects and programs.

Constituents of Barangay XIII envision that:

“Every head of the family will have a permanent job, all children are in school and every family will have a house and lot of their own. Education will be accessible to everybody through the acquisition of a site for elementary and high school of this barangay.

“We further envision a peaceful and a clean environment conducive for better living conditions of the people of this barangay, the city, the province and the nation as a whole.”
